One of the screenshots showed the start menu during a campaign level. One of

: during multiplayer games. Drop-in Co-op?

I found a thread that accompanied pictures, it says that is one of the features, along with perks.

: And the weapons looked very customizable. The BR had a clip of 12, looks like
: it's firing single shots just like it did in early Halo 2 builds.

Really? I think you might be reading too much into it (or I might be mis-understanding what you mean, customizable weapons to me means something like they are going to have in Army of Two: 2)

Kinda got myself to hyped up, on the picture with the Sp'lazer I thought they where in space (space combat!) but I think it is just the light. And one last question, does anyone else see a giant (missile launcher maybe?) thing on the back of the warthog? Other than that I am a little skeptical about how good some of these look, it is like they are farther then what I thought they would be by now, although they have been working on it longer than I have known, so...

Recession Video Game Woes

[ Category: Video Game News ]

A good amount of video game video game journalist have said video games are recession proof, but these new financial stats have proved other wise. I have noticed , quite a few big name companies who have stated they have taken sales losses this past week. I am not positive however that it relates to the current recession we are in, but I'm sure it has to do with it in some way. The companies worth noting are Ubisoft , THQ , Konami, and Nintendo.

Nintendo planning to offer WiiWare demos

[ Category: Video Game News ]

During the recent investor Q&A session, Satoru Iwata announced plans to begin rolling out demos for a small selection of WiiWare games this month. He didn't say which region or regions would receive this service, so let's assume it's just Japan.

The pilot program is intended to bring more attention to the Wii Shop Channel, which, Iwata said, is currently only used by people who already know what they want. He expressed some doubt as to the effectiveness of demos as a promotional tool, but the (test) market will decide that!

There was no word on whether Nintendo would also try the controversial "advertising" method of promotion, wherein a company tells its customers about its games.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii to be the hardest in the series

[ Category: Video Game Interview ]

Tags: mario, nintendo, wii

The all famous Nintendo Power magazine had a huge spread on the New Super Mario Bros. Wii this month, and in that spread is word about the difficulty of the game itself.

"Super Mario Bros. Wii isn't easy-in fact, the game is hard. We're willing to bet that this is one of the hardest games in the series. If you're looking for a true test of platforming skills, you're about to get all you can handle."

Hearing that is very exciting to me and I'm sure a lot of you hardcore fans out there. I'm hoping this can be the Mario game to top my favorite Super Mario 3 and/or Super Mario World.

A lot of people were worried that the game would be really easy since the game is designed with multiplayer in mind. Miyamoto is making sure this game is not only good but apparently challenging as well. Very exciting stuff I should say.

Nintendo also talked about the difficulty of making this Mario game 4 players, and how every platform and every element had to be made just right so it worked in a 4 player environment.

"We couldn't create anything that wouldn't allow us to put more than one character in the game. That was tough. We've got moving platforms, if you make that normal size, you can't get all four players on it; if you make it to big it's to easy."

I definitely am excited for this games release, which is rare for me because I'm never excited about Wii games since they are mostly disappointing in my opinion. (mini-games galore, anyone?)

Iwata: DSi XL Not Just For Seniors

[ Category: Video Game Interview ]

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said at the company's semi-annual financial briefing that the boost in LCD screen real estate is obviously easier on the eyes, but that "Nintendo does not offer such new product for such limited purposes only."

"Many people see a portable video game device as the device that can be played by yourself wherever you are," Iwata contends. "In fact, portable video game systems so far have been developed by prioritizing the portable nature and single-player modes."

Not the DSi XL! It addresses the lack of "a beautiful view from any angle," Iwata says, offering a "new play style."

"Nintendo DSi XL realizes beautiful game screens even for those who look at them from an angle," Iwata claims. "You do not have to peek closely into the monitor of another player's video game to get a good view anymore. Nintendo DSi LL is going to offer a new play style, where those who are surrounding the game player can also join in one way or the other to the gameplay. When you look at the home console video games you can understand that the fun of great games can be conveyed to and shared by those who are watching the player play."

In other words, Nintendo is attempting to transform the image of the Nintendo DS from portable platform only to portable platform that's also a console to be played at home in groups.

Iwata pointed to the Nintendo DS Mii collecting game Tomodachi Collection—a bestseller in Japan—as an example of a title which "whose appeal can by multiplied and enjoyed by bystanders."

The Nintendo DSi XL, Iwata says, is the "first portable video game system aimed to be played with others in person." In doing so, Nintendo expects DSi XL to accentuate the "fun feature" of software, potentially making the game "an unexpectedly huge hit."

DSi XL FAQ

[ Category: Video Game Gear ]

Basics
The Nintendo DSi LL will be released in Japan on November 21 at a price of ¥20,000 ($218.50). It will be released in Europe and North America in Q1 2010. It is functionally identical to the current DSi, but features a larger body and larger screens.

Size

The DSi XL measures 161 x 91.4 x 21.2 mm (6.34 x 3.6 x 0.83"), 1.61x the total volume of the DSi, and 1.48x the volume of the DS Lite. It weighs 314 grams, compared to the DSi's 214 and the DS Lite's 218.

Screens
The screens are 4.2 inches diagonal. For comparison, the DSi's screens measure 3.25 inches, and the DS Lite's screens are 3 inches. Though there hasn't been a specific announcement about it, there is no reason to believe the screens will have a different resolution from the current DSi.

Colors

The Japanese version will launch in three colors: Wine Red, Dark Brown, and Natural White. No announcements have been made regarding color for any other region.

Included software
Preloaded on the internal memory: the DSi Browser, Flipnote Studio, Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Math, and Meikyou Kokugo Rakubiki Jiten, a dictionary program.

Accessories

The DSi XL, like every other DS, includes a stylus that fits into the unit. The DSi XL stylus is 96mm long, just 4mm longer than the stylus on the DSi. The XL also includes a 129.3mm-long pen-shaped stylus, which does not fit inside the console. In addition, for the first time in the DS line, two DS models will share a common AC adapter. The DSi XL will use the same AC adapter as the DSi.

Battery
Despite the increased size of the displays, the battery in the DSi XL supposedly outlasts that in the DSi. Nintendo claims 13-17 hours of runtime on the lowest brightest setting, compared to 9-14 on the DSi. On the highest brightness, the DSi XL supposedly lasts 4-5 hours, one hour longer than the range for the DSi.

Compatibility
As a DSi, the XL will be able to play DS cartridges, including those designed only for DSi and those enhanced for DSi. It will also be capable of downloading and playing DSiWare. Like the current DSi, there is no slot for Game Boy Advance cartridges.

Transfer of existing DSiWare
Don't expect to transfer DSiWare purchases to the new system if you plan to upgrade. There is no end-user mechanism for transferring content from one DSi to another, and, at least in Australia, the process involves sending both a new DSi and your (broken) one in to have the company do it.
