For those of you who are in the dark, it's an international law that was discussed about being potentially passed at the G8 summit, and basically, it would allow the government to search your laptop, iPod, any electronic device and confiscate it if "deemed necessary" if there's anything that infringes copyrights, and it also gives the government the power to monitor your internet and have your ISP give them their logs.
I've seen two terms thrown around in regards to this:
"The PATRIOT Act, only applied to everyone"
"Big Brother become real"
And I agree with both. I think it's beyond unfair that we have to surrender our rights because the rich fucktards at the RIAA and MPAA want to stay rich. ___

So 1984 is coming to life before our own eyes....
Well, it was nice having freedom while it lasted. And considering that I have downloaded a lot of pirated stuff and books of dubious nature, there is a good chance that if they look at my notebook, I'll be locked up for fifty years. ___ Member of the Paramount Elite Group join torncity.com so we can create a clan there..

Odds are, majority of us would be locked up for quite a while if this passed. ___

Criticism
Many civil rights groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation oppose ACTA, calling for more public spotlight on the proposed treaty.[11] A British study found that iPods owned by persons 14-24 today contain an average of more than 840 tracks downloaded on file-sharing networks, nearly fifty percent of all music possessed by this segment. The same study also found that 95% of individuals falling under this category have copied music in some way.[12] Thus, some critics argue that the ACTA directly incriminates the ordinary consumer activity[13] and constitutes a genocide against modern technological culture.[14][15] |
