I know a *reasonable* amount about advertising and have some experience on an athletic apparel/footwear brand and what continually amazes me is how Nike doesn't advertise like anybody else in their category. When you ask why, you always hear: "Because they're Nike."
Conventional wisdom would suggest that maybe if some of the others advertised like Nike, they'd see Nike's success too, but it just doesn't work that way.
