Yankees Win World Series
Sports: What was almost a comeback for the Philadelphia Phillies ends as a victory for the New York Yankees in Game Six of the World Series. Watch the last pitch and ceremony.
wired: Drawn out boss battles in massively multiplayer games are nothing new, but Final Fantasy XI's Pandemonium Warden (pictured at right) takes the concept to a ridiculous extreme: A recent (unsuccessful) attempt on the Warden's life raged for 18 hours.
FFXI Link Shell (think: guild or clan) BeyondTheLimitation attempted the boss a few days ago, but after 18 real-world hours of combat, were forced to admit defeat when members of the LS began "passing out and getting physically ill."
"None of us doubt that PW can be killed. We just call into question exactly what the development team thinks is reasonable from human beings," wrote BeyondTheLimitation member Sylphet, clearly baffled by the developer's choice to add such a ridiculously lengthy encounter to the game -- particularly as it flies in the face of the game's warning screens urging players to take frequent breaks from play.
