Oil Platforms in Hurricane Gustav's Projected Path

Across the gulf, oil platforms and coastal refineries were making preparations for the storm. Many have suspended operations and evacuated personnel from sites in the projected path of Hurricane Gustav. The cessation of oil pumping operations and the possibility of oil platforms, pipelines, and refineries being damaged or shut down for a protracted period sent oil prices higher as Hurricane Gustav's path became a little clearer on Wednesday.

Governor Jindal's Recommendations to Prepare for Hurricane Gustav

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has advised residents to make emergency preparations now. Prudent preparations include arranging a means of evacuation and place to stay if Hurricane Gustav continues on its projected path toward New Orleans. Having food, water, and essential medications on hand for several days is also advised. For those planning to use their own vehicles to flee New Orleans ahead of Hurricane Gustav should that become necessary, topping off the gas tank early, like today, is strongly recommended.
