Red Cross finds Bush admin guilty of war crimes
In a secret report last year, the Red Cross found evidence of the CIA using torture on prisoners that would make the Bush administration guilty of war crimes, The New York Times reported Friday.
The Red Cross determined the culpability of the Bush administration after interviewing prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, according to the article.
Prisoner Abu Zubaydahwho said he had been waterboarded, and slammed against the walls and and confined in boxes so small he said he had to double up his limbs in the fetal position.
The information comes from a new book written by Jane Meyer, who has frequently published articles concerning counter-terrorism in The New Yorker.
The book is titled The Dark Side: The Inside Story of How the War on Terror Turned Into a War on American Ideals,and will be released next week.
Mayer cited sources familiar with the report to explain the confidential document as a warning that the abuse constituted war crimes

This comes in from our friendly correspondent Stephe: Dishonourable Killings! « A Thinking Man: "An inquest heard this week that Asian student, Shafilea Ahmed, aged 17, from Warrington, Cheshire, UK, was probably murdered in 2003. Pathologist Dr. Alison Armour said: "The most likely cause of death is strangulation or smothering." Prior to her disappearance she had returned from Pakistan where she had rejected an arranged marriage. To date, no one has actually been charged over the murder. Although the case remains open, one possibility considered by police is that Shafilea was the victim of an 'honour killing'. If this murder turns out to be such a one, it will add to the growing number in Great Britain. One estimate is that there are 12 'honour killings' in the UK each year.
Sadly, 'honour killing' is a worldwide phenomenon, that thanks to global communication, is now receiving more attention."

He claims he was only there to talk about his experience as a state's attorney in Indiana, his wacky theories about pornography, and to preach the gospel, so of course his being there had absolutely nothing to do with his segregation plan that would allow blacks to "have six states, so instead of having one half-black senator, well they would have 12."
Now it turns out that the St. Joseph County Republican Party is trying to distance itself from Zirkle. I wonder why?"

When it comes to the Freedmen, Cherokee Nation Chief Chad Smith keeps saying 'Let the courts decide this case,' when they already have. The Cherokee Supreme Court ruled that the Freedmen are Cherokee citizens. But he ignored that decision because it didn't go the way he thought it would.
Smith strips other tribes of their federal funding and recognition, like he did to the Delaware Tribe. So what's the big deal -- are Indian leaders only outraged when it happens to the Cherokee Nation? They never stood up and scolded Smith for doing for doing this to the Delawares.
Smith doesn't care if another tribe's federal funds or recognition are taken away but he expects everyone to jump up and down and throw a fit when it's happening to his tribe because he doesn't want the federal government to cut off his flow of money.
He's already ruined the Shawnee Tribe when they separated from the Cherokee Nation, and he's attempting to do even more damage to the Delawares with promises of regaining our federal recognition if he can control all of our federal funding. We said 'NO!' to that idea." ?
