Hey guys, been a long time.
Yesterday, I was able to listen live, via Internet, on BBC Radio1, an interview with Lily Allen and listen to her new single, The Fear. It is lame and disappointing.
In the interview, they mentioned the album seemed to be "much more mature". Not even when hell freezes. In the song "The Fear", Lily criticises the society, and consumerism, and stuff like that. Its strikes me as a spoiled, silly, rich little girl who just discovered how the world is.
The song is not edgy at all. It bangs on the subject, discussed years and years ago, by many talented artists, who, then were insightful and got to sing about something people weren't actually aware at the time. Hello, who has not heard about capitalism and our society, that buys and buys stuff?
I want avant garde, something expected to be heard years from now, not old shit. Come on, 21'st century, and people are going back in time. And not in the Amy Winehouse good way. It was retro, yet contemporary. I can only hope that she does not disappoint me with her second album.
BTW, Lily's album has been ready for quite some time now, and it will only be released on 2009. Who knows much more outdated it will be then?
I wan't to listen to records edgy like Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor, in 2005, and Justice's Cross, in 2007. Justice's songs are contemporary even today, and will be for quite some time.
So what do you think about Lily's new song? Here is the link so you can have your opinion. Sorry Lily, I like you a lot, but this one you just got it wrong...
