I've got a bunch of screenshots I took of the Japanese game for you guys to look at. I'll also be glad to answer any questions that I can. I can't read Japanese, so I'm not sure of all the exact story issues, but the anime has filled in a few blanks.

So far as I've got from the anime, this all takes place 200 years after the events of the very end of MMBN6 (the future part). In this world, the radio waves have taken over as the main method of doing pretty much anything. They make food from radio waves for crying out loud. The net has been done away with in favor the radio wave system. Since the net was done away with so were NetNavis, but programs do still exist...and resemble chao from the Sonic series...
Subaru is the main character of the game. Some time before the games starts his father is killed when a space station he is working on explodes. They had been experimenting with communicating with beings from another planet. The game starts with the scene where Subaru is told his father is dead and is given his father's Visualizer, a pair of goggles that allow him to see the radio wave world vaguely.
When out stargazing one night, he suddenly gets a reading on his transer, the device which replaced the PET only without a NetNavi. The reading gets stronger...and it appears to be that of his father! Suddenly a beam strikes him from space and he loses consciousness. When he wakes up, he sees a strange being in front of him. He introduces himself as War Rock, a being from the planet FM. He explains that his people live in the wave world and the viruses are actually creatures from his planet. Eventually, they fuse via a process known as Dempa-henken, or Wave Change, to become Rockman.

As far as has been revealed so far, they are not related, though that could come up in one of the sequels.

Very much so. The overworld system as your human character is identical. The control of the any of the characters in the overworld is identical. One major difference is the method of entering the wave world. Rather than jacking into a particular device like in MMBN, you have to enter the wave world before you can enter a specific device...or at least that's the way I understand it. I'll do more testing sometime to be sure. To enter a device you must tap the whirlpool enterance above the device. Once inside, it very much resembles the Cyber World of MMBN. ___ < |
