If you look over to the right to the sidebar, you'll see an "I Took the Handmade Pledge" badge. The handmade pledge is, simply, this: "I pledge to buy handmade this holiday season, and request that others do the same for me." I don't believe I can buy 100% handmade, at least not until one can buy artisanal games for the Wii, handcrafted camera lenses, or handbound Stephenie Meyer books. However, I have been enjoying buying many of my gifts through Etsy.com, an online marketplace for all sorts of handmade goodies.

So far I have scored: a great copper guitar-shaped bookmark for my son's guitar teacher, a gorgeous music note clip for my daughter's piano teacher, some adorable cupcake soaps for teacher gifts and stocking stuffers, a glass pendant-making kit (also for teacher gifts), leather Shakespeare bookmarks for the performing arts teacher, two paintings for my mom, a cool metal guitar necklace for FreckleBoy, a cute frog necklace for FrogGirl, and some amazing scented sugar scrubs for friends. The best part -- many of these gifts were under $10! And I have saved tons of time that I would otherwise have spent wandering aimlessly in stores, being annoyed by Christmas music and clueless shoppers.

Etsy can be extremely addictive. Don't say I didn't warn you.
