Howl of The Lonely Wolf
Like the howl of the lonely wolf, my soul rose into the darkness, reaching to embrace the moon. I take one last look back at earth and see my broken body lying, broken and beaten, by the lilac bush I loved so much. And though no tears fall, I cry for what I have lost, but rejoice for what I have gained. Freedom. Freedom from the cuts, the bruises, the words. Freedom from the anger, the guilt, the confusion. But does it cancel out what I have lost? The happiness, the memories, the love? The people I knew and loved will miss me, but will he? Him, the cause of my pain and suffering? Will he miss the only person he could push around? Anger welled inside me and caught me by surprise. At the same time, I felt the pull of the moon lessen and I knew I had to let go of my hate if I am to rise. I thought back to all the pain and torture. The anger grew and the pull weakened. Then I remembered all the good times we'd had and I knew, at that moment, that he would miss me, too. As more than a punching bag. I closed my eyes, smiled, and, like the howl of the lonely wolf, I rose into the darkness, reaching for the moon.
