Okay, so I am watching the Maury show today about paternity testing and something just occured to me. What if the father or the child is a Chimera? A chimera is a biological term (now and days) which describes someone that has two different strands of D.N.A. with in them. Now what this means is that if a person got a D.N.A. test for his son who happens to be a chimera and is technically his son, there is a good chance that the test could show that it is false. Which makes me wonder if there is someone on the Maury show that could be a chimera but because of the different D.N.A. strands they have there father was told that they were not the father.

That's highly unlikely for several reasons. Chimeras are not that common in the first place and the odds of one DNA strand over another is likely 50/50. Secondly, they use multiple cells and therefore multiple strands of DNA. So if anything, chimeras would cause confusion because they would have multiple different results. ___ < |

So, why does this thread exist? | Because I was wondering if this happened on the Maury show since they do paternity testing out the wazoo and a lot of the ladies on their are repeats who still can't find the child's father after the umpreteenth time they are on the show. Now, I know that most likely that is a case of not being able to keep stuff shut, but I seriously doubt that this has not happened at least one time. ___ My DA story hub thingy

It's not that common. Besides, even if it happened, there's no way they'd think it's Chimerism unless they have a medical condition that requires them to test for it. ___

And your right, there is no technical way to determine Chimerism unless the doctors take samples from different organs and study them. But I can't help wonder. ___ My DA story hub thingy
