Me, I'm still a damn OS fetishist. I have to have all three running at the same time. Windows for the compatibility, Mac OS X because Aqua is teh pretty GUI, and Linux because no nerd is complete without some flavor of Linux, not to mention I just love playing around as root.
Linux is OK...and a lot of games and whatnot are accessible via Wine, although Wine still has plenty of room to grow. I still personally think it's the most powerful OS out there due to its extreme flexibility and ability to run on anything (and the fact that when any consumer electronic with a storage device comes out, the first piece of homebrew for it is a custom-tailored version of Linux)
OS X does inherit a lot of its habits from UNIX and the Mach kernel, however, a bunch of stuff was inherited from NEXTSTEP as well. But mostly UNIX. Terminal is orgasmic if you know what you're doing with it, as is the case with any *nix clone or descendant.

Haha, I'm the same as you BigNig. I have all the OS's installed on this thing, and I switch between them often.
Also, the Intel requirement isnt a problem for me, since I have a mac with an intel processor :P ___
Intel requirement won't be a problem for me...I'm custom building a system around the Core 2 Duo, or if I can scrape up the cash, the Core 2 Quad, and then get OSX86, XP, and probably either Debian or Fedora Core running on it. Having three hard drives rock.
OSX86 would probably get the most use, Windows in second because I needs to play me some Half-Life 2.
Too bad Snow Leopard ain't bringin' any GUI changes. I love it when they decide to change something up. ___

If I can grab a computer that can run vanilla OS X on a Celeron 430 or equal, then I might base the computer around a Celeron 430...allows me to be a cheapass and go 64-bit.

It's it's own thing.
Basically, you only have on your system what you really need. During install, you specify your modules, manually edit your .conf(s), and install all your needed apps.
Its very fast, and very small: you can have a full system in around 400 MB. Which makes it awesome. ___
