What prevents you from committing atrocities of the greatest degree against people that hurt you?
I think one of the reasons why I am so moral is that I have a lot of family members who are in jail that have made a lot of mistakes. Furthermore, I wouldn't like the look of my mom's face when I am in jail. Also, all these deaths now scare me. Never has the world experience such turmoil such like this. Though, I must admit, if I am angered beyond belief, there is a chance that I would hurt someone. ___ My DA story hub thingy BCWriter's workshop Board

I wouldn't consider myself a moral person, but I wouldn't fall under amoral either. I'm in that gray area in between. I curse and swear. I tell dirty jokes. I've done things that my parents wouldn't approve of on a semi-regular basis.
But I'm not going to do something purposefully to do serious harm to someone else. Yeah, I'll play around with somebody and rough em up a bit, but nothing serious. Same goes mentally and emotionally. I pick at people...it's just my nature. I'm a smartass. And I hurt my girlfriend's feelings...a lot lately...but I don't do it on purpose to get some sorta kick out of it. I mean it in harmless fun...and sometimes as a zinger, but still...
Why though... I'm sure it has some to do with how I was raised...in a church believe it or not. But that's not all. Actually, the type of games I play have a serious impact on my sense of morality...especially games like Megaman and Sonic. They always go on no matter what...and the cheesy dialogue, bad as it is, is kinda inspirational to me. The way that they always talk about working together and always fighting to the very end...and helping people even if you don't really know them. And they say videogames are eroding children's sense of morality... ___ <

Technically, by being amoral, your more likely to do evil acts than immoral. If one is immoral and likes taking advantage of people, sees a way of causing harm to someone by actually helping them or someone else, they still commit a good act (though its tainted).
Also, an amoral person could commit immoral acts simply by allowing someone in a situation that any normal person believe to be horrible will do nothing to help them. ___ My DA story hub thingy BCWriter's workshop Board

Actually, the definition of amoral is to be "neither moral nor immoral". So don't go pull your "technically, blah blah blah" bullshit on meh.
Anyway, to steer myself back on topic...
I probably fit under the moral category. Depending on the person, I might be a dick to some people (like my brother!), but I try to not be a complete douche. ___

The concepts of morality and immorality are so subjective. Society as a whole may have a generalized concept of morality, but each individual also takes the concept and puts his/her own twist on it, so it is no more than an abstract concept created by humanity to justify their actions.
As for myself, I guess it has to do with the way I've been both raised and the way I taught myself. While yes, we went to church and whatnot, I don't think those really had any influence on me. Most of my time in church was spent either daydreaming or drawing on the back of the donation cards they kept behind the pews, I never actually listened to what was going on around me. I was both taught and also taught myself that life is a precious thing, and as such, I have no right to take it from someone else, and I must respect life in its many forms (although bugs are still so nasty to me that I can't help but squish them...sorry, guys). ___

I get all my morals from being a christian basically (in b4 christfag, blah blah blah). Some of my fellow christians will say that you cannot be moral without God. I however believe that because we are made in God's image, there is good in everyone, and we all have a natural sense of what is right and wrong. It's just up to the individual whether or not he/she acts on that sense. And it's not all christianity that makes me moral. I have even learned through experience what is right and wrong because of the punishments I have suffered as a result of my poor judgement.
Hell, I still do things that are technically immoral, like cuss and all that, but it's just human nature. Though we are made in God's image, we are still sinful too (mindfuck? lol). I know that may seem a bit contradictory, but it's just what I've noticed in people I have met and encountered throughout my life and in myself. ___
I think it's just my natural natural instincts that make me not want to do anything that could lead to trouble. :\ ___ "I thought you might be worried, about the security...of your shit." It was electric, so frighteningly hectic.
