canada.com: Items possibly belonging to missing aviator Steve Fossett have been found by hikers in a remote area of California more than one year after his mysterious disappearance, police said yesterday. The police chief in Mammoth Lakes, California, said items including an identity card bearing Mr. Fossett's name were discovered on Tuesday. The identity cards did not contain a photograph of Mr. Fossett, 63, and no plane wreckage was found. Police said aerial searches were under way. Mr. Fossett disappeared after taking off from a private airfield near Reno, Nevada, on Sept. 3, 2007. In February, an Illinois judge declared him legally dead at the request of his widow.
