Saints Stay Perfect 7-0
Direct Link
NEW ORLEANS (AP)—Drew Brees and the Saints are so good right now they can’t even beat themselves.
New Orleans overcame four turnovers for a second straight week to stay perfect with a 35-27 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night, matching the best start in franchise history.
Brees, responsible for two turnovers, passed for 308 yards and two scores. Pierre Thomas, who fumbled, also scored two touchdowns. Jabari Greer, who got burned for a deep touchdown, also returned an interception for a 48-yard score, helping the Saints improve to 7-0.
Only the 1991 Saints began a season with as many wins.

Bad Blood Between Benson/Bears
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP)—Cedric Benson believes the Chicago Bears did all they could to prevent him from signing with another team.
Released in June 2008 after two alcohol-related arrests, Benson will come face to face with his former team when the Cincinnati Bengals host the Bears on Sunday. Although he insisted he’s not out for revenge and won’t try to send a message, Benson clearly has some bad feelings for the Bears.
“I heard all the rumors that were said coming out of Chicago,” Benson said. “Even the Bengals told me all the things, that they would call and inquire about me and get nothing but negative things. Just that I didn’t work hard, that I was I guess a prima donna or I didn’t work hard on the field, just wasn’t focused, just anything negative that they could say, it was said. I’m sure that contributed largely to me not getting picked up right away.”

The Flu Bug
BEREA, Ohio (AP)—Just when it couldn’t get any worse for the woeful Cleveland Browns, it got worse.
The team has been sacked by the flu.
On Wednesday, 12 players, including Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers and five other starters, missed practice with flulike symptoms as the team began installing the game plan for Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
Mangini scaled back the workout in hopes of keeping his healthy players from getting sick. He’s also emphasizing preventive measures to stop the virus from spreading deeper through the team. If players are showing any symptoms, the Browns are sending them home.
“We’re being really aggressive preventatively,” he said. “If there’s any sign of it and we think it’s heading that way, we’d much rather try to minimize the effects on the player and also possibly the exposure to the rest of the group.”
Mangini implied the sick players had not yet been tested for H1N1 virus. He said some of the cases were new, and he might not be able to reveal any test results because of medical privacy laws.

Bears Lock Up Cutler Til 2013
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP)—It didn’t take long for Jay Cutler to figure out Chicago is where he wants to be and the Bears don’t want to let him go.
Acquired from Denver in a blockbuster offseason trade, the quarterback is now locked in through the 2013 season after signing a two-year contract extension late Tuesday. A relieved Cutler says he hopes to finish his career in Chicago and that he’s “done with this moving stuff.”
The extension calls for approximately $20 million guaranteed and roughly $30 million in new money, according to a person familiar with the discussions. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the terms were not released.
Cutler said Wednesday the desire to stay in Chicago is mutual and that the agreement “worked out for the both of us.”

Vikings Outlast Ravens
MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—As great as Brett Favre was Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings quarterback was pretty sure he wasn’t good enough.
So sure that the Vikings were headed to their first defeat of the season, Favre couldn’t even bear to watch as Baltimore kicker Steve Hauschka lined up for a 44-yard field goal with 2 seconds to play.
Yet thanks to Favre, receiver Sidney Rice and a whole lot of luck, the Vikings are 6-0.
Favre’s 58-yard completion to Rice set up Ryan Longwell’s fourth field goal, and Hauschka’s kick was wide left at the final whistle, allowing the Vikings to remain undefeated, 33-31.
