I have been reading this book and it has got me thinking--What are true emotions? We say, for example, that we are happy. Now, there are many times where that is the case. However, when we say we are angry, are we truly angry? Or are we just exasperated by events that are spiraling out of our control? When we say that we are depressed, are truly? Or sad? Does our generation truly comprehend the concept of sadness? This might be wrong, but that question does not include those with the clinical condition of 'Depression.' Can emotions even be true? Or even be describable?

That's a good question, because I believe most of us lie to ourselves mos of the time about most of our emotions.

For example, say my father died. I cry, but I try to hold back the tears and keep telling myself that he is better off now that he doesn't have to live in such a cruel world, but inside I just want to cry more.

I think it's better to just skip the "better place" bullshit and let yourself cry your eyes out. At least you know it's true.

i agree with it all. how do we know what we are really feeling is that certain emotion. i can be pissed at someone for wanting the same thing i do but if they get it im completely happy for them.i think that emotions are really complicated and as humans, we made it easier for us to comprehend.
